Annual maintenance trimming can be done between mid-May and late September. It helps to keep your hedge beautiful and healthy. Nearly a quarter of cedar branches dry out every year, especially in the middle or at the bottom of the hedge. Therefore, these dead parts need to be removed so that the sun can penetrate and new shoots can be produced. Every year, it is also necessary to cut off one-third or half of the new shoots to shorten its sides and top, while giving shape to your hedge.
It is recommended to trim your hedges into a conical or rounded shape (narrower at the top than at the base) so that the lower branches can benefit from the sun. Additionally, a rounded top allows snow to slide off the sides instead of bending the hedge.
It is important to trim your hedge every year to optimize its growth and ensure it remains healthy. In the years following the planting of your cedars, we will trim only the sides to allow your hedge to grow upwards. Upon request, we will add fertilizer after trimming your hedge each year.
